Uses:
Often used in creams and lotions to soothe areas of inflamed skin or for example in haemorrhoid preparations to reduce discomfort. Lignocaine is used by doctors to anaesthetise areas prior to surgery, often avoiding the need for a general anaesthetic. The drug can also be used by injection after a heart attack to treat some rhythm disturbances.
